Global Action Plan in Cork region PDF Print E-mail

Cork Environmental Forum has contracted a project manager to coordinate GAP in Cork City and County. Since the launch of the programme in the Autumn of 2003 programmes have run in Bantry, Cobh, Macroom, Mallow, Midleton, Youghal, Bere Island and in Mayfield, Mahon and Knocknaheeny in the City.

Participants on the initial programmes in some of these areas have stepped forward as team leaders and run secondary programmes within their communities. Team Leader training days give potential team leaders the skills and confidence they need to run these programmes and more training events are planned for the future.

In addition to this there is a growing list of environmental and community projects and actions that have come about from participants meeting each other on the programme. The project has proved to be highly effective and popular with participants, local hosting organisations, local authorities and other funding bodies.

GAP is expanding rapidly and any individuals or groups who would like to see GAP come to their area/group/workplace are encouraged to get in contact. The GAP eco/action team programme has gained worldwide momentum over the last 13 years and is currently running in at least 17 countries. If the projected growth for GAP in the Cork region can be realised it will make Cork one of the most active GAP regions in Europe.
