GAP
has been working in Ireland since the early 1990's. During this time a
number of families around Ireland participated in Action teams and GAP
was involved in a variety of projects around the development of Local
Agenda 21 in Ireland.
GAP aims to raise environmental awareness and inspire local initiatives in through various projects and programmes.
GAP´s core adult community programme is the ´ Environmental Action Team´. Action Teams consist of people working and living in the local community, with around 12 people per Action Team. With the support of a trained Action Team leader participants find out about living sustainability;covering the topics of waste, shopping, energy, transport and water. Positive, achievable environmental actions are taken at each session. No formal education is needed to take part in an Action Team, just life experience. Participation gives a strong sense of community spirit and personal achievement.
GAP aims to reach 10 percent of the population in each community where the Action Team programme present. Experience shows that when this goal is achieved it has a major positive effect on the whole community.
For more details on Action Teams and our other projects and programmes, please have a look around our website.
GAP's work has concentrated in Ballymun over the last 4 years. However we are available to carry out action teams and work with other local community groups all over Ireland. For more information on the kind of programmes GAP has experience of running check out the "Projects" section of this website. If you would like to set up GAP programmes in your local area contact Ian or Lynn in the GAP office on 01 8625846, we would be delighted to talk to you.
