Eco Action Teams make helping the environment fun, easy and effective. As an Eco Action Team member you will be joining other people who also want to reduce their impact on the environment. You will pick up invaluable tips from others as well as impart your knowledge and experience. There is also the opportunity to meet new people in your area. Many people join Eco ActionTeams to get to know their neighbours or colleagues. Your Eco Action Team, comprised of approximately six to eight people, and will meet for around two hours for a seven week period. You will discuss a range of environmental issues, measure your own contribution to some of these problems, and decide on a range of actions to reduce your overall environmental impact. The teams can run in the morning, afternoon or evening, whatever suits you. Action Teams consist of people recruited from the local community, often neighbours from the same area. There´s usually 10 people per Action Team and with the support of a trained Action Team leader, they organise their own schedule of six or seven two-hour meetings. During these meetings, participants learn about lifestyle sustainability in the areas of waste, shopping, energy, transport and water -- and receive a free environmental gift. Environmental pledges are taken to encourage Action Team members to move towards a more sustainable way of life. With the aid of their coach, participants find their own answers to some key questions such as:
Where do I start?
-
What actions are important, and which are my personal priorities?
-
How do I set about implementing change?
-
Will what I do really make a difference?
What will you learn?
-
How to minimize household waste
-
How to minimize your contribution to water pollution
-
Making efficient use of energy
-
What Green Products are available in your area for a reasonable price
-
How to minimize air pollution from your transportation
-
How to inspire others
What’s in it for me?
- Most people feel very good about being part of the solution instead of the problem
- You can save money on household bills
- Earn €500 if you decide to continue and lead a team (More if you train more teams!)
- Learn to landscape your own garden
- Free gifts with each session including compost bin, low energy light bulbs, eco friendly washing up liquid, cotton linen shopping bags, free entry into the Dublin Food Coop
How much time does it take?
There are six to seven meetings, each lasting approximately two hours. It is up to the group to decide how many times a week or month to meet. After each meeting, participants will hopefully be inspired to make some changes at home .
What happens then?
Anyone who has completed an Action Team will be invited to join specialists that can implement your ideas on a larger scale to make your neighbourhood a cleaner, better place to live.
